Workshop Overview

This is a training session which looks at what to put in place of the online SEF withdrawn by Ofsted and is designed for childminders, who want to move away from the Ofsted template, but don't feel confident to develop something themselves. This course will help them develop a framework for self-evaluation. 

Learning Objectives

  • Understand what Ofsted will be looking at and for
  • Recognise and be able to implement the key elements that make self-evaluation successful 
  • Have an awareness of the concerns that Ofsted have raised about the quality and accuracy of self-evaluation

Who Should Attend?

This training session is ideal for childminders.

About the Tutor

Pennie Akehurst is an experienced presenter and trainer, who has worked in early years and childcare for 30 years, the last 17 of which have been spent delivering strategic early years and childcare priorities within 2 local authorities. 

As head of a Quality Improvement Service and then a large Early Years and Childcare Service, Pennie has a proven track record of delivering support, training, challenge and intervention programmes which have enabled leaders, managers, teachers, and practitioners to continue to meet challenges in and changes to legislation and practice.

Pennie has worked with the private, voluntary and independent sector, in private and voluntary settings, in the public sector, in and with schools and with Children’s Centres. She has been a Chair of Governors in an infant school and is currently a Trustee, and Chair of the Standards and Performance Committee in a growing Multi-Academy Trust.

Workshop Overview

This is a practical workshop for early years practitioners and primary school teachers designed to teach you storytelling games that parents can play with their children to help develop children’s language and literacy development. Many parents don’t feel comfortable or able to read to their child, so this workshop is designed to give them practical games they can play anywhere to create stories with them. You will also learn practical tips on how to run parent sessions.

  • Learn a repertoire of storytelling games to teach parents
  • Gain practical tips on how to run parent sessions
  • Learn how creating stories with children develops their language and communication
