We are extremely delighted to introduce the launch of our EYR Workshops for early years practitioners, childcare providers and teachers. The very first EYR Workshops are taking place on the 12th October 2018 at the Holiday Inn Express in Trafford City, Manchester and will provide you with lots of practical advice and essential tips on safeguarding and EAL.

These fun and interactive workshops will be led by storytelling specialists, Tonya and Natasha from Little Creative Days, and are guaranteed to leave you walking away with a wealth of new fresh ideas to take back to your setting to enhance the children’s learning, development and welfare.

The first EYR workshop session is dedicated to safeguarding through stories and looks at how stories can help you identify safeguarding issues. The second session focuses on how you can use stories and puppets effectively to help engage children with EAL.

Workshop Overview

This is a practical interactive workshop for early years practitioners to look at how stories, props and storytelling techniques can be used to identify safeguarding issues and help you decide if you need to initiate your setting’s safeguarding procedures. Gain practical advice on how to recognise safeguarding issues and walk away with lots of fresh ideas to use straight away.

Learning Objectives

  • How to use stories and props to identify safeguarding issues
  • How to use stories proactively to discuss safeguarding topics
  • How to get a child to open up and talk to you
  • How to spot if something needs further exploration
  • Practise using stories and props to help with possible scenarios 
  • How to decide if you need to initiate your setting’s safeguarding procedures

This workshop is ideal for early years practitioners, reception teachers, primary teachers, childminders and safeguarding leaders for nurseries and primary schools.

This is a practical interactive workshop for early years practitioners to look at how to use stories, story-related products and puppets to engage those with English as an additional language (EAL) and help them feel included. Gain practical advice on how to use stories effectively and leave with lots of ideas to engage children’s interest and help develop their English language.

Learning Objectives

  • How to use stories and puppets to help those with English as an additional language (EAL)
  • How to use stories, including big books, effectively
  • How to use puppets to increase engagement
  • How to help engage those with EAL and to help them feel included
  • How to help children develop their English language
  • How to help children model language in a meaningful context

Who Should Attend?

This workshop is ideal for early years practitioners, reception teachers, primary teachers, childminders and SENCO's.

About the Tutors

Little Creative Days: Tonya Meers & Natasha Dennis

Tonya and Natasha, the storytelling sisters, are authors of a series of books about a little dog called Pojo who gets itchy paws and goes off on adventures.

They have won multiple awards for their puppet making kits that accompany the stories including Teach Early Years Excellence award for Communication and Language Resource.  

As well as working with us at EYR they also run workshops for local authorities on how to use stories and creative activities to improve communication in early years as well as running literacy workshops in schools across the country.
