“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted” – Aesop

#extraswithEYR was born in 2021 to raise awareness of the charities that we have served over the years and to celebrate our achievements as a team.

Over the years, our external relationships have blossomed, contributing to who we are today.

By raising vital funds for charities and providing a platform for unheard individuals such as, PhD students and parent bloggers, we have enriched our outputs whilst supporting important research and new-found knowledge surrounding children’s education.

Despite being a small company, Early Years Resources has a commitment to the concept of “little and often”. This means that we are constantly on the lookout for opportunities where we can contribute to charities in need, whether this be donations of time, money, or resources, we are always on board.

Our combined strength and beliefs have allowed us to outdo ourselves each and every time. Discover some of our latest donations below.

Greenfingers Donation – April 2022

In honour of National Gardening Week on the 2nd to the 8th May our chosen charity for April is Greenfinger. This charity is dedicated to supporting children in hospices around the UK by creating inspiring gardens for them and their families to enjoy and spend time in. The idea behind the specially designed gardens is to bring many benefits to children with life-limiting conditions, give them a chance to spend time together outdoors and away from their bedrooms.

To raise money for this charity we have introduced a charity donation product to our website that you can view here. This can be added to your basket as many times as desired and 100% of the proceeds will go to Greenfingers charity. Red Nose Day Donation – March 2022

For our March donation we focused our efforts on raising money for Comic Relief! Comic Relief is a charity that work to support various projects around the UK and across the world. Their aim is to support people breaking free from poverty, violence and discrimination and this year their efforts were turned towards people feeling the war in Ukraine.

Our efforts to support this amazing charity included:

  • Donating red noses to our customers
  • Doing a scavenger hunt for our own red noses
  • Hosting a raffle
  • Racing each other in a red nose and spoon race
  • And of course the red nose day quiz.

In having fun on the day we managed to raise £176.82 as well as awareness for this incredible charity. To learn more about comic relief then visit their website here >

World Book Day Book Donation - February 2022

EYR’s monthly donation for February centred on the philosophy that every child should be given the chance to learn how to read. With this in mind we collected books for the month of February to donate to Read Manchester in time for world book day to give all little learners the chance to get lost in a story.

Read Manchester is an initiative led by the National Literacy Trust in partnership with Manchester city council. The initiative works to engage local families with books to encourage them to make reading a priority in everyday lives and end the cycle of illiteracy. EYR’s donation of 93 books has been distributed by Read Manchester to food banks, schools and learning centres to support children and families around Manchester.

Christmas Foodbank Donation - December 2021

With Christmas being such a crucial time to look out for those around us, we extended our offerings once again to the local Stretford foodbank. The foodbank is part of a nationwide initiative to combat poverty and hunger and from October onwards, the charity launches its Christmas appeal initiative. This initiative aims to ensure each family can celebrate Christmas in some way or another.

With this in mind, the team at EYR headquarters got together to donate festive food items, from Christmas puddings, to chocolate coins for children and everything in between. The Stretford Foodbank is a charity we are proud to work with and will continue to do so into 2022.

If you are also interested in donating to the Food Bank or simply want to find out some more information then visit their website here

Wear it Pink – October 2021

In October 2021, we all donned something pink in support of Breast Cancer Now’s Wear it Pink Day, an event we have supported for years. This day takes place during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, raising vital funds for Breast Cancer Now and spreading awareness of the disease.

Breast Cancer Now is an organisation that conducts research into secondary breast cancer, from finding ways to stop the cancer spreading, to finding more effective ways to treat it. The charity supports those with secondary breast cancer and ensures the right support, treatment and care is available.

On the day, everyone proudly wore something pink, took part in quizzes and other activities, raising a total of £173.

Stretford Foodbank Donation – September 2021

Stretford Foodbank is a part of The Trussell Trust network, a nationwide initiative that works to combat poverty and hunger. Partnering with care professionals to identify those who are in crisis, the foodbank can issue vouchers for three days of emergency food contributing to: improving mental health, preventing crime, the breakdown of family units and housing loss.

As our headquarters are located in Stretford, this foodbank was an obvious choice for us to support. In the run up to Harvest we collected food and other essential items to donate, helping to support some of the most vulnerable members of our local community.

The foodbank has confirmed that our donation weighed 14.7kg, this equates to approximately 35 meals.

The foodbank are always looking for volunteers to help with their mission of ending hunger. If you would like to give something back, get in touch with them today.

Hospice Donations – August 2021

In August 2021 we went to visit our friends over at Francis House, Derrian House and Ronald McDonald House. These charities offer care for children and young adults with life limiting or life threatening conditions and provide essential support for their families.

We gifted a total of 3 pallets, which is around 75 boxes of stock including: decorations, tableware, hats, piñatas and more. By contributing to these charities and their fantastic teams, we hope to have taken some of the stress out of party planning so that the children and their families can focus on commemorating every event, making their experience and time in the hospice the best it can be.

It was great to meet the amazing Hospice staff and learn more about all that they do for the children they care for.

“On behalf of the children and families at Francis House Children’s Hospice I would like to thank you for the recent donation of party items – I am still wading through it all! I am confident that all this will be put to good use and bring a smile to many faces” – Julie Williams, Fundraising Officer
