Make Your Own Spooky Bats – Halloween Crafts

Get ready for Halloween by making these spooky bats! An ideal activity for 5-7 year olds; follow the instructions below to get started:

Art materials you will need:

STEP 1: To make the large bats we made some black woolen pompoms. We cut out two circles of card each measuring 6cm in diameter and then cut a smaller circle 2cm in diameter in the middle to create a doughnut shape.

STEP 2: Put the two circles of card together and then cut a length of black wool. Tie one end around the circles of card and then start winding the wool around the doughnut shape. As you come to the end of your wool, cut another length and tie it onto the end of the other piece. Contine winding the wool until the hole in the middle has almost disappeared.

STEP 3: Using a small pair of sharp scissors (adult help required here!) cut around the outside edge of the doughnut . It helps to get the sciessors in between the two pieces of card. Then, slide a piece of wool between the two pieces of card and tie it tightly around the centre of the pompom. Cut away the pieces of card and fluff ouy your pompom.

STEP 4: To create your bat, cut out a pair of wings using the template provided. Stick some googly eyes onto the pompom and then, using double-sided tape, stick the bat to the wings.

TIP: To display your bats, either create a hanging loop when you tie the wool pompom together or push a wooden kebab or lolly stick into the pompom when finished.
