'Fibres and Fabrics' encourages students to test and research the properties of different threads, fabrics and dyes with a clear link to the new 'How Science Works' curriculum, with suggestions for how the ideas could be introduced in the classroom.

  • Fabrics are materials made from weaving, knitting, crocheting or felting fibres together.
  • Often the fibres, which are thin and long, are first wound with other fibres to make a thread.
  • The thread, such as in a ball of wool, is then used to produce a fabric like in a knitted jumper.
